Spring
is the perfect time to re-energize and cleanse! It’s nature’s birthing
season and an ideal time for new growth and possibilities!
Facilitated by Valerie Houston - Peel our
wonderful Women’s Wellness Weekend will provide you with the tools you
need to strengthen, balance and beautify in the natural splendor of
Greenestone Health & Wellness Resort (www.greenestone.net) in
Muskoka. You will partake in an amazing program of meditation,
exercises, health seminars and a creative component all designed for your nourishment in the Spring season. Healthy & nutritious meals will be served. Facilities also include massage therapy,
indoor pool, sauna / hot tub, gym & nature walks.
Facilitator:
Valerie Houston-Peel has over 28 years
experience in Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Meditation, spiritual study,
Five Elements Health System, and has her Black Sash in Kung Fu. Valerie
and her guest instructors will provide you with treasures of
knowledge for cultivating healthy and empowering habits for
wellness. You will not want to miss this insightful and rejuvenating weekend! If you can't make the whole weekend but would like to participate in some of the program events please inquire.

Day 1- Friday, April 16th
4:00 pm - Guest arrival and Check-in at Greenestone.
Welcome Dinner 6:00 p.m. 7:00 pm - Introductions. Journaling / Writing Workshop
with Sasha Pringle. Bring your favourite pen and journal if you like.
WRITING
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIVE PASSAGE: Writing down our thoughts can
be
a powerful method of reflection. As in the words of E.M.
Forester,
“How can I know what I think until I see what I say?” Writing
can
also be a kind of meditative practice. As in other types of
meditation, writing as a practice can be a way for us to calm and
centre our minds; to allow for creativity to shine through and to
engender overall well-being. In this seminar we’ll explore
and
learn about writing as a means of creative expression and wholeness
seeking. ($25.00 for seminar only)
Day 2 - Saturday, April 17

Meditation - Learn and practice a series of meditation techniques.
Meditation helps bring clarity to the mind, energy to the body and
tranquility to the spirit. Increases intelligence too! A morning of
exercise. Principles of Tai Chi with Valerie Houston Peel Rooting,
Centering, Aligning, Relaxing, Focusing and moving with the Flow. Learn
the essence of Tai Chi movement which you can easily adapt into your
everyday life. Harmony of mind, body and spirit. Special
focus on
rooting for the Wood Element. Chi Kung - Energy Exercises
Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade
Life
is breath. Learn how to maximize your breath potential. These
eight chi kung healing exercises combine breath with movement. They
will help you to circulate chi (life force energy) through your body
while
nourishing the organs and improving your vitality, flexibility and
strength.
18 Lohan Exercises.
A series
of 18 dynamic movements to stretch and strengthen the body, activating
and stimulating the flow of chi throughout the 12 major meridians of
the body. Build a vigorous body with these exercises - a real energy
booster! ( $45.00 for 1/2 day)
12:00 – 2:00 pm A healthy and harmonizing lunch is served. ($12.95 for lunch + taxes)

p.m. - Introduction to Five Elements Health
System & Wood Element with Valerie Houston Peel .
Staying
healthy through the Spring Season means keeping your Wood
element organs, liver & gall bladder, in the healthiest
state
possible. With special attention to nutrition, cleansing, exercise,
awareness and creativity. Learn about the Wood Element
and
all its health associations to organs, tissues, emotions,
exercises, sense, sound, color, foods, herbs and
more. Exercises specifically for cleansing and
detoxifying the Liver & Gall bladder will be instructed. Reflexology with Janice Hess :
Solar plexus stimulation Liver / Gall Bladder reflex manipulation

10:00 - 11:45 am Sprouting Workshop with Barbara Cowan ND
An
interactive and informative workshop where you will learn everything
you need to know about how to grow sprouts, their nutritional benefits
and lots of great ideas and recipes in order to enjoy them. An easy and
smart way to incorporate fresh, organic greens into your diet or spring
cleanse. Yummy samples and handouts are included. (Sprouting Seminar $35.00 or $45.00 for the morning.)
12:00 - A healthy and
harmonizing lunch is served. ($12.95)

massage therapy sessions are available throughout the

Biography
of Instructors

Valerie Houston-Peel
Valerie
draws her knowledge and insights from teaching Tai
Chi,
Sword, Chi Kung, Kung Fu, Meditation and spiritual study with Temple
Knights Martial Arts Academy for over 25 years. She has her
Black
Sash in Kung Fu Over the years, Valerie has
incorporated
the Chinese Five Element Health System into her practice and
teaching. Valerie teaches group and private classes, conducts
corporate Health & Wellness seminars and Women's Wellness
Weekends Valerie designs her programs to nourish
mind, body
and spirit in accordance with the seasons and has seen many
transformations in the lives of those who make the time to balance this
essential connection. Valerie is also currently writing a
book on
this topic and is featured on several health and fitness DVDs selling
on the international
market.

Barbara
Cowan ND is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor who currently practices
holistic medicine at the Gravenhurst Naturopathic Healing Centre, which
serves the Muskoka community. Barbara graduated from the Canadian
College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in May 2004 after four years of
full time study at the college. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in
Biology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Her areas of
study included: Botanical Medicine, Nutritional Sciences, Indigenous
Studies, Acupuncture and Homeopathy. She has completed further studies
in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture (Cosmetic Acupuncture), Therapeutic
Touch and is currently pursuing further studies in Environmental
Medicine. Her passion lies in teaching others how to understand and
embrace the healing power of their minds and bodies and how to
cultivate a healing diet and lifestyle. The following is a quotation
that is inspiring Barbara today: “Illness is a form of searching.
Health is the manifestation of inner peace.”

Sasha Pringle - Stories have long been my
passion and my means
of understanding the world. Currently, I make my life-story, with my
husband and daughters, in Gravenhurst, Ontario.
Janice R. Hess, of Harmony Healthways, is a Reg'd Reflexologist living
with her family and serving in the Parry Sound/Muskoka regions.
Janice, a former R.M.T. (Reg'd Massage Therapist), continues her
studies in Nutritional Health and Supplementation with Edison Institute
of Nutrition and offers Holistic Spa Services and educational
information to anyone interested in exploring further pathways to
health.
