Richard Cowley

Richard has lived and worked in the Muskoka area for over 20 years. He moved to the Gravenhurst area in 1989 and has lived in Bala since 2004. He has been a self employed contractor in the heating and petroleum industry during this time. After recognizing the toll the physical and mental stress were taking, he began studying Tai Chi Chuan with the Temple Knights Wu Shu academy in 2005. It was a life changing decision. The physical, mental and spiritual benefits have been profound. In addition to the regular classes, Richard is also two years into the Teacher’s Certificate course. Under the guidance of the Temple Knights Academy, he is now looking forward to teaching an introductory Tai Chi course. Richard is working towards his Black Sash in Kung Fu.

Barbara Pryce

Barbara retired from teaching elementary school in 1998 and moved to Muskoka where she had spent a lifetime of summers. Having studied for years at the Centre of Movement in Toronto, her desire to continue instruction led her, in 2002, to Sifu Valerie’s class where she discovered that Tai Chi offered opportunities for physical, mental and spiritual growth. A decade as a caregiver lent insight into the potential realities of old age. It became obvious to her that Tai Chi, practised regularly, was an excellent way to maintain balance, strength and flexibility as well as mental clarity and focus. Hence Temple Knights became a constant influence in her life and she enjoys the challenge of sword, staff , sabre & fan.

I started as a student of Tai Chi with Sifu Valerie. Being a trade’s person with a history of chronic back pain, I was hoping to establish a regular practice to address this and seasonal depression that had plagued me throughout my adult life… I have found my sense of physical and psychological well-being greatly improved.

I look forward to Sifu Valerie’s weekly Tai Chi class. A variety of activities keeps each session interesting and fun…I noticed that in a relatively short time my balance has improved. I have a growing feeling of confidence as I learn to move fluidly from one posture to the next.
